Positions Available
House Officers/ Medical Officers
Successful candidates will be rotated amongst the disciplines in the various institutions under NHG to gain valuable exposure, and as part of their medical training requirements. All candidates should possess a Medical Degree or post graduate degree recognized by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC), as listed in the schedule of the Medical Registration Act.

Registrars / Associate Consultants / Consultants
Specialists and specialty trainees with recognised and relevant postgraduate qualifications are also welcome to apply.

Doctor's Career Progression
NHG offers various career progression tracks that will allow you to pursue career goals according to your different interests and competencies. The various career paths that are available are as follows:

a. Specialist Track is designed for doctors who wish to be trained to be specialists.

b. Residential Physician Track is designed for doctors who do not aspire to be specialists, but prefer to remain working in a hospital setting, after completion of their Medical Officer bond (applicable for local medical graduates from National University of Singapore NUS) and after attaining a minimum of 5 years experience as Medical Officer (post-housemanship).

c. Family Physician Track is designed for doctors who attain the Masters of Medicine (Family Medicine) and who wish to pursue a career in primary healthcare/family medicine within NHG Polyclinics.

d. Family Doctor Track is designed for doctors who wish to remain working in NHG Polyclinics as a general practitioner after completion of their Medical Officer bond (applicable for local medical graduates from NUS) and after attaining a minimum of 5 years experience as Medical Officer (post-housemanship).

What is required before I can work in Singapore as a Doctor?
Before you can start work as a doctor in Singapore, you will need to have the following:

  1. Medical Registration with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC)
    • House Officer - Provisional Medical Registration
    • Medical Officer & Above Grades - Full/Conditional Medical Registration
    • Medical Officer (Non-Traditional Source) - Temporary Medical Registration

    → You will need to complete the SMC Application for Medical Registration Form and enclose all the required supporting documents that are stated on the 1st page of the form. Thereafter, it should be submitted to the employer who will apply for Medical Registration on your behalf.

    → SMC will generally require 4 weeks to process an application for Medical Registration (upon receiving the completed application form and the complete set of supporting documents).

  2. Employment Pass for non-Singaporean or non-Singapore Permanent Resident
    → You will need to complete the Employment Pass Application Form (Form 8) and enclose the relevant supporting documents. Thereafter, it should be submitted to the employer who will apply for an Employment Pass on your behalf.

    → Processing time required by Employment Pass Department is 2 weeks from the receipt of the application following SMC's approval of Medical Registration.

    → If you are currently studying in Singapore and are on Student Pass, you are required to cancel your Student Pass before the employer could submit your application for an Employment Pass.
