Introduction to IMET
The Institute of Medical Education and Training (IMET), a unit of the NHG College, aims to support and facilitate medical education and professional training of clinical staff in the NHG. This will also ultimately improve the delivery of care to our patients. IMET will prioritise junior staff training so that Medical Officers (MOs) and Registrars joining the NHG will enjoy the best medical training and support available.
IMET will promote the following:
- Organise and support courses, skill training and workshops which have direct value to the cluster.
- Plan training syllabus for MOs within the cluster.
- Coordinate existing and new training activities across all NHG institutions and disseminate the whole list of training activities available to all our medical staff.
- Build links with renowned medical institutions worldwide to develop the standard of medical research and medical practice and to foster the exchange of knowledge and technology.
Core Programmes
IMET offers a series of core programmes which will be useful to first-year MOs in the course of their work. These programmes have been endorsed by the NHG CMB Committee. MOs are required to attend at least one of the core programmes within each posting. To facilitate attendance by MOs, most courses run on Saturdays to minimise disruption to clinical duties. We encourage Departments to send their MOs to the Communication Skills and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) courses in their first year. These courses are also open to Registrars and Senior Staff. The courses are:
- Communication Skills Courses by Cognitive Institute
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Evidence-Based Medicine (Basic)
- Risk Management
- ECG Reading
- X-Ray Reading
In addition, IMET offers a series of elective modules including:
- Practical Geriatrics for Hospital Doctors
- Laboratory Test Interpretation
