Roses of Hope Foundation

Beginnings...

Roses of Hope Foundation
Roses of Hope Foundation

In December 2002, a group of young doctors working in Singapore noticed that during festive periods such as Christmas and Valentine's Day, consumerism appears to take control over our lives as we struggle to find the right presents for friends and loved ones. But, beyond the warmth and the cheer and merry-making, there remains a quiet segment of our fellow humans who tend to be forgotten. Amongst this group of unfortunate Singaporeans are adults and particularly the underprivileged children who come from broken or poor families and who yearn for that little compassion and kindness in their young lives.

With this in mind, Roses of Hope was started to create greater awareness for the less fortunate in Singapore and to give our doctors a greater sense of responsibility and fulfillment in their professional work and personal lives.

Future Projects
Roses of Hope will continue to organise fundraising activities to benefit the less fortunate children in Singapore.

Roses of Hope currently has grown to involve medical officers, dental officers and corporate officers from NHG. We are also honored to have Dr. Loke Wai Chiong as our advisor. We hope to involve more like-minded and committed friends in this worthy cause for our future projects.

Past Projects 2005
This August (22-28) 2005, they embarked on their inaugural self-organised medical mission. They provided health education and medical screening for a group of orphans and nearby villagers at Hope Village, Cambodia. This is a community established by a Singaporean to help Cambodian orphans by providing shelter, education and warmth in a big family and community. Click here to read more about their experience!

Past Projects 2003
The Roses of Hope aims to adopt one beneficiary every year on which to focus their efforts. For this year, we have nominated The Children's Society as the Society represents a strong symbol of Hope for future generations of Singaporeans. The target for this year's fundraising efforts has been set at $10 000 We have already raised more than $7000 through our activities during Valentine's Day, Mothers' Day and Children's Day this year.

Sale of keychains to raise funds for The Singapore Children's Society
A charity drive was conducted in September in NHG's hospitals and institutions to sell key chains to raise funds for the Children's Society in conjunction with Children's Day. Response was overwhelming. In a short period of 1 month, a total of 500 key chains were sold and $5000 raised.

Fundraising to sponsor children to a Christmas concert
The Work Group will be raising funds to sponsor 100 children from the Children's Society to attend an SSO Christmas concert. They have also collected a Christmas wish list from this less priviledged children, and will be setting up posts at NHG hospitals to collect gifts for these children.

Participation in "Under No Roof" event
Some of our doctors and dentists also took part in an outdoor event in October organised by Habitat for Humanity, where they learnt how to simulate building shelters with cardboards boxes and stayed in them to better understand the plight of the homeless.
